The story of an invention

For decades inventors have sought to design a cover that would allow washing to dry in the rain.

The inventor of the Rotacover is no exception, but his story is a little unusual.

Tom Holland trained as an engineer before studying theology and becoming a Baptist minister. It was because he worked from home that he saw his wife rushing in and out to rescue the washing.

Tom’s engineering background came into play and he invented a cover. The invention turned the rotary line into a giant umbrella. He patented it and won first prize in the invention of the year competition run by a hardware trade magazine. Industry interest was high and the world’s largest rotary line manufacturer (Hills Industries) tested twelve covers all around the UK, sending them to customers who put the cover through its paces in a range of conditions.

The testing went well and Hills agreed to sell the product with their lines. There was one problem that their MD demanded must be solved before he took them. He wanted one cover to fit all three arm lines and one cover to fit all four arm lines.

Sadly, the cover fell at this commercial requirement. Hills knew that the retail trade would not take as many as eighteen different sizes to fit the range of lines that existed. Tom found this was the case and the problem seemed beyond resolution.

Almost twenty years have passed, and now, at last, the problem has been solved. Keeping to the original successful design, Tom has invented a device that allows one giant canopy to fit all lines, no matter what their make, size or their shape of arm. The arms can be rectangular or round, oval or ‘U’ shaped. The cover fits them all. It takes less than a minute to put on and even less to take off.

So now you can reduce your drying bill and help save the planet. It is so effective that you will be amazed to see that your washing will continue drying in torrential rain. The Rotacover is about to change your washday experience and help you do your part to leave a better planet for your descendents to inherit.

And the good news is that the Rotacover only costs between £35 and £45 and can save many times that on your electricity tumble dryer bill year after year, as well as taking away all that washday frustration. And yes, of course, it seriously reduces your carbon foot print!
